Bulk Clone Work Items

Clone Expert now allows you to clone multiple Jira issues at once using the Bulk Clone feature. This option helps you quickly duplicate any group of work items – from simple lists to complex hierarchies – based on your selected filter or ongoing search (Basic, JQL query or Ask AI).

With Bulk Clone, you can reuse templates, replicate project setups, or migrate selected issues in one streamlined operation.

✅ When to use this

Use Bulk Clone when you need to:

  • Duplicate multiple issues matching specific criteria (via Filters, Ask AI, JQL, or Basic search)
  • Clone any range of work items – from a small task set to large, multi-level hierarchies
  • Copy reusable work packages or templates between projects and teams
  • Migrate or replicate issue sets while keeping hierarchy and relationships intact
  • Create flattened hierarchies when the parent structure isn’t needed
  • Adjust summaries, due dates, assignees, or other fields before cloning
  • Generate ready-to-plan work items without repetitive manual setup
  • Save time compared to manual, one-by-one cloning

    🛠️ How it works

    1. Find the issues to clone
      Use one of several ways to define your cloning scope:

       

        • Ask AI – Describe what you want to clone in natural language (e.g., “All stories from last sprint assigned to me”) and get instant JQL suggestions
        • Work Item Search (Basic) – Manually search issues using filters and keywords
        • Saved Filters – Choose a previously saved filter from Jira
        • JQL Query – Enter your custom query for precise selection
    2. Open Bulk Clone
      Go to Apps → Bulk Clone (Clone Expert)
      The form automatically loads issues from your chosen search, filter, or AI prompt.
    3. Set up your cloning configuration

       

      Destination space – Choose where the new issues will be created:

        • Same as original (default)
        • Or another project of your choice

      Include – Decide whether to copy optional elements:

        • Attachments
        • Watchers
        • Links
          These options appear only if such data exists in the selected issues

      Advanced options

        • Create a link between cloned work items → Adds relationships between new clones
        • Keep hierarchy between selected work items → Retains parent–child structure of the cloned items
        • Keep link to original parent (if parent isn’t selected) → Keeps reference to the original parent issue if only part of the hierarchy is cloned
    4. Customize field values before cloning

       

        • Use the preview table to review all issues included in the cloning scope
        • Click directly in any cell to modify field values (e.g., Summary, Due Date, Assignee, Labels, Priority)
        • Apply bulk updates to an entire column — overwrite, add prefixes or suffixes, replace values, or shift dates
        • Use placeholders like {SUMMARY}, {DATE}, or {USER} for dynamic content generation

    💡 Tips

    • No limits: Bulk Clone supports cloning large sets of issues – from 5 to 500+ at once.

    • AI-powered selection: Ask AI simplifies finding relevant issues without writing JQL.

    • Editable preview: You can fully prepare cloned items before they’re created – saving cleanup time later.

    • Hierarchy preserved: Parent–child links remain intact if selected in Advanced options.

    • Dynamic updates: Combine placeholders with bulk editing for fast and consistent data changes
