Advanced Template Cloner for Jira helps you clone templates faster and with more control. Below you’ll find a concise overview of the key features available in the app, focused on preparing “ready-to-plan” work items before you confirm cloning.
Preview & Control
Flexible preview table view
To make life easier, the preview table can be adjusted to match your workflow. You can:
- choose which columns you want to display and edit before cloning
- hide columns you don’t need
- reorder columns
- resize columns
Your layout is saved in your user settings, so you only set it up once.
Supported fields
Clone and edit a wide range of field types:
Summary, Description, Priority, Assignee, Issue Type, Due date, Estimation, Labels, Environment, Components, Affects Versions, Fix Versions, Sprint, Epic name, Standard Field Types, Checkboxes, Date Picker, Date Time Picker, Labels, Number Field, Paragraph (supports rich text), Radio Buttons, Select List (single choice /multiple choices/cascading), Short text (plain text only), (formerly: Text (single)), URL Field, User picker (single user), (formerly: User (single)), Other field types, Assets objects, Group picker (multiple groups), Group picker (single group), Project picker (single project), User picker (multiple users), Version (single/multiple)
Note: even if a field isn’t explicitly added to “Additional fields”, it can still be cloned as long as it’s supported.
Bulk preparation before cloning
Apply changes across many work items at once directly from the preview table.
Overwrite:
set one value for the whole column (e.g., assignee, priority, summary, dates)
Add prefix/suffix:
mark all items consistently (release tags, project codes, status markers)
Find & replace:
update recurring phrases across the cloned scope (e.g., Q3 → Q4)
Planning & Scheduling
Dates auto-adjustment to the earliest date
Shift all date fields in your cloned set to match a new start date. Useful when you reuse a template but the timeline changes every time.
Calculate using calendar days or skip weekends (working days).
Date auto-adjustment to the latest date
Shift all date fields in your cloned set to match a new end date. Useful when you reuse a template but the timeline changes every time.
Calculate using calendar days or skip weekends (working days).
Placeholders – Smarter templates with dynamic content
Use placeholders to insert dynamic values into fields so templates don’t require manual rewriting.
On-clone placeholders:
values provided at clone time (names, dates, emails, client info)
Custom placeholders:
reusable values managed globally (company text blocks, signatures, standard labels)
Object placeholders + helpers:
pull data from Jira and transform it (fields, current user, current time, formatting)
Structure & relationships
Create a link between the original and cloned work items
Optionally create a link between the original item and its clone to keep traceability (and reduce “which clone came from what?” detective work). Choose the link type in the cloning form.
Select a parent for the top-level work item
When cloning a work item (and optionally its hierarchy), you can assign the top-level cloned item to an existing parent (e.g., Epic, Program, Capability, Initiative, depending on your Jira hierarchy).
This is useful when you reuse a structure but want it placed under a different parent in the new context.
Productivity extras
Worklogs cloning
Optionally clone worklogs along with the cloned items (when enabled), so repeated work packages can include time-tracking context where it makes sense (e.g., operational checklists, recurring service tasks).
Multiple cloning (Do not close after cloning)
Keep the cloning form open after submission to repeat cloning quickly with small tweaks (e.g., different dates, assignee, prefix) without reopening the whole flow.
Supported languages
The app follows the language set in your Atlassian account / Jira instance and is available in multiple languages, including:
- French,
- Spanish,
- Portuguese,
- German,
- Polish,
- Japanese.
